Pray for Prosperity

Should you pray for prosperity? Well, let me ask you, what's your true purpose for wealth? It's an important question to consider. Have you ever wondered how someone with hundreds of millions of dollars can still be dis-satisfied with their life? This thought crossed my mind years ago after reading about a very prominent real estate tycoon that was so dis-satisfied with his life that he decided to hang himself.

This may cause you to wonder, if people with massive amounts of wealth can still be dis-satisfied with life, then there must be something more to a fulfilling life than simply financial success. Otherwise, why would such wealthy people still be so unhappy?

I believe the answer lies in knowing the difference between the world's view and the Christian's perspective on their purpose for wealth. The Bible says "the thief does not come except to steal, to kill, and to destroy. So the world would like nothing more than to see you continue to struggle and work day and night to pay bills and continue in poverty.

Likewise, the world's view is to hoard wealth and use it solely for selfish gain. Their focus is to collect as many houses, cars, and jewelry as possible in the belief that once obtained, they will be happy.

Yes, it's true that God's plan is for His people to prosper and be whole in every area of life. He has pleasure in the prosperity of His people. It's God that actually gives us the power to acquire wealth, to establish His Covenant. So yes, you should pray for prosperity.

However, as a Christian it's also important to have the proper motives for the acquisition of wealth. As Christians, we should pray for prosperity, but remember that we are called to continue the ministry of Jesus in the Earth. His ministry is to "seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). He came to do the will of the Father who sent Him.

God's will is that everyone come into a knowledge of His Son Jesus Christ and receive Him so they can be saved.

John 6:38-40

For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

As a Christian, you have the opportunity to seek the lost as either a "goer" or as a "sender" You can go out yourself to reach the world or you can provide financial support to those who are called to go. In either case, it requires resources to do so. This is where the true purpose for wealth comes into play.

One thing we need to recognize as Christians is there is no shortage of wealth in this world. It's just in the wrong hands!

So our goal as Christians should be to pray for prosperity and learn to become financially independent to free up our time and resources to seek and save the lost Then, if your priorities and motives are right, your own needs will be met in the process, because God has promised that if you "seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these things will be added unto you".

God wants you to pray for prosperity, because He wants to get wealth into the hands of people who understand that seeking the Kingdom is first. Wealth has to get into the hands of people who are committed to doing the will of God. So whether you're a goer or a sender, pray for prosperity, but also never forget the true purpose for wealth.
